Browning’s Brew Pub
Restaurant & Hospitality
“Making beautiful adaptive use of the shell of the historic red-brick Brinly-Hardy ‘train shed,’… Browning’s manages to capture a warm 19th century feeling in an all-new facility. Shiny copper brewing kettles and mash tuns set the tone, rising a full three stories behind glass in full view of the dining area.”

One of Louisville’s most distinctive eateries and sports bars, Browning’s Brew Pub is located at Louisville Slugger Field. Swope designed the space to showcase the three-story-high brewing tower and highlight the talents of a notable brew master. Interiors were designed in an 1890s style, with beadboard walls, wide-plank wood floors, ceiling fans, and custom lighting. Seating consists of custom-designed private booths, open four-top tables, and a row of original Irish pub high tables and benches. Unbeknownst to patrons, Browning’s shares a kitchen with Park Place Restaurant on Main, an upscale restaurant located next door. Browning’s namesake is Pete Browning, for whom the first Louisville Slugger baseball bat was made in 1884. Swope served as the project principal and provided programming, interior design, and project
management services.
